What is the difference between the bagless central vacuum systems and the electrostatic bag systems?
What differentiates these two types of central vacuums is mainly their filtration mode. Indeed, for bagless systems, the first dust barrier consists in the cyclonic circulation of air. The centrifugal force directs the dust particles to the bottom of the dust canister. The machine washable pre-filter then catches any remaining fine dust particles. Finally, our machine washable CyclofiltreTM with antimicrobial treatment prevents the growth of bacteria and mold, captures the microparticles. Electrostatic bag systems have a totally different filtration procedure. A convenient disposable electrostatic filter bag captures dust and ensures constant maximum vacuum power. Which tools do I need to install my central vacuum system?
The connections to the piping system will require some basic tools: a mitre box and small saw or a pipe cutter. To simplify matters, installation kits, including necessary fittings, pipes, glue and low voltage wiring, as well as a detailed instructions booklet, are available from Cyclo Vac service centers.
What do I have to verify before operating my central vacuum cleaner?
Before operating your central vacuum, verify that your central vacuum is properly connected to the piping system, and to grounded electrical outlet, and that the low voltage wires are connected to the unit. Then read the complete owner’s manual and proceed with a quick verification of your unit’s installation. Check the bag/filters to be sure they are properly installed and not damaged. You can also check the rubber seals in each vacuum inlet.
What should I do if my central vacuum doesn’t start?
If your central vacuum doesn’t start, there are a few possible causes that have to be verified. First, the electrical power or the low voltage wiring can be connected improperly. It is also possible that one of your vacuum inlets is defective. You can also verify if the unit/in-house circuit breaker is off. Finally, it’s possible that your on/off hose is defective. What should I do if I notice a decrease of my central vacuum’s suction strength?
There are a few possible causes that could explain a decrease of your vacuum’s suction strength. Verify if the dirt receptacle or the bag of your central vacuum is full or if the dirt receptacle is improperly attached. It could be also possible that your filters need to be cleaned or replaced, or that the motor guard screen is blocked. You can also check if one of your vacuum inlets is open or if an exhaust line is clogged. We also recommend that you verify if your hose is blocked or if there’s any obstruction in the piping system. Can I safely vacuum liquids with my Cyclo Vac central vacuum?
No. Your vacuum cleaning system is designed to collect everyday dry matter (dust). It is approved by authorized testing agencies for dry use only. Do not use on wet surfaces. Should you accidentally vacuum liquids, immediately unplug the unit from the electric outlet, then empty and wipe the dust receptacle with a dry cloth. Then operate the system from the vacuum inlet through which you vacuumed the liquid, in order to eliminate all moisture in the piping system.
Are there some materials, besides liquids, that my central cleaning system cannot vacuum?
Yes. We strongly recommend against vacuuming abrasive materials such as cement, plaster and gyproc dust. This fine dust could work its way into the motor, causing considerable damage. Should you do so inadvertently, immediately clean the filters and, as a precautionary measure, contact your authorized service center to determine the extent of the damage to the unit. Remember that in order for your warranty to remain valid, maintenance of the motor and repairs to the unit itself must be carried out by an authorized service center, using original Cyclo Vac or Trovac parts.
When do I have to change my central vacuum’s filter bag?
Simply change the bag when the one in place is full. Frequency will depend on use of the unit. For the GX series, the DataSync LCD monitor, at the front of the central vacuum unit, will indicate when to change the bag. These indications are provided by an electronic timing board, only as a reference guide. Use only genuine Cyclo Vac replacement bags and filters. Failure to do so could void the warranty on your vacuum unit.
When the flashing LED over the Bag icon indicates that my filter bag has to be changed, what should I do?
When the LED (light emitting diodes) over the Bag icon is flashing, simply check the bag and change if necessary. You must replace your full bag with a Cyclo Vac electrostatic bag that you can easily get at an authorized dealer. To stop the flashing light, press the on/off button on the hose handle and the reset button on the front of the power unit for 1 second.
How do we restart our vacuum once the bag has been changed?
Press and hold the reset button for five seconds.
When is the best time to do the maintenance on my central vacuum cleaner’s filter?
For a bagless unit, we recommend regular maintenance of the filtration system, in order to ensure your central vacuum’s maximum performance. We also suggest that you clean the anti-clogging filter (thin fabric) every time you empty the dust receptacle (every season). You may either shake it or wash it. As for the CyclofiltreTM, it should be cleaned after four anti-clogging filter cleanings, or approximately once a year. These two filters are machine washable, in cold water without bleach, and must be dried at low temperature. Before replacing the filters, inspect them for tears or punctures because damaged filters must not be reinstalled. Use only genuine Cyclo Vac replacement filters. Failure to do so could void the warranty on your vacuum unit.
Should my vacuum cleaner’s round filter (E100, GS110, GS110 and Axess models) be changed?
The disc-shaped filter, located between the dust bag and the motor, should be changed once for every three bags, or more often as needed. Use only genuine Cyclo Vac replacement bags and filters. Failure to do so could void the warranty on your vacuum unit.
Does my central vacuum’s dirt receptacle require any maintenance?
Occasional maintenance of the dirt receptacle is necessary to ensure constant, lasting performance. We recommend that it be emptied at least every season, depending on frequency of use. To empty the dust receptacle, first disconnect your vacuum cleaner from its power source. Then release the two clamps, lower and empty the canister, then replace it and seal by refastening the metal clamps.
What is the use of the carbon dust filter and when should I replace it?
Our patented carbon dust filter, unique world wide, captures the fine black dust produced by the motor, which would normally be deposited on surfaces surrounding the central vacuum unit. We recommend changing this filter after three bag replacements. For the GX series, the DataSync LCD monitor, at the front of the central vacuum unit, will indicate when to change this filter.
How do I change my carbon dust filter?
To replace the carbon dust filter, unlatch the opening on the carbon dust filter casing and gently flip it upward. Then, remove the used filter and discard. Insert the new filter and make sure that the arrow printed on the filter itself points outwards. Finally, close casing opening, and latch.
Does my central vacuum’s motor(s) require occasional lubrication?
Cyclo Vac motors do not require lubrication. Each motor contains two carbon brushes which will wear normally, and may eventually require replacement. We therefore recommend that you have your unit and motors inspected by a service center every 5-6 years.

Is it recommended to install an exterior exhaust from my central vacuum system?
Yes. When possible, it is best to install an exterior exhaust from your central vacuum system. This exhaust considerably decreases the central vacuum sound level and allows, if there are any tears or punctures on your bag or filters, evacuating bacteria and mold outside. It also allows the heat, produced by the power unit’s motor(s), to be redirected outside and not in the room where your central vacuum is.
What is the Cyclo Vac one year satisfaction guarantee?
We are certain that you will be completely satisfied with your central vacuum system. For one year following the date or purchase, if the performance of the vacuum unit does not meet your expectations, return it to your local Cyclo Vac service center for a complete refund or credit towards the purchase of a more powerful Cyclo Vac model. This warranty applies only to the vacuum power unit.
Are my Cyclo Vac attachments guaranteed?
Yes. All Cyclo Vac recommended attachments are guaranteed for three years, subject to certain conditions. If, during this three year period, an attachment presents a manufacturing defect, return it to the nearest authorized Cyclo Vac service center along with a copy of your invoice (clearly indicating the attachments purchased), and we will repair or replace the part according to the warranty conditions. This warranty does not cover normal wear and tear of components such as belts, brushes, rollers and their components, nor abusive use. It is valid only for normal domestic use.
